OUR MISSION

At South Miami Riding Club

We believe in a better way of teaching horse back riding – with patience and understanding for both horse and rider.
We believe it is essential for horses to have a home with trusted care, great training and lots of love.
We believe in a community of horse enthusiasts – with the goal of passing on the passion for horses and riding.

That’s why we created this place – for learning all about horses and riding – and spending time with our wonderful horses.

OUR APPROACH

We are proud to offer English Riding Instruction, specializing in hunter seat for riders of all levels, from kids, beginners to experienced riders.

Whether you desire recreational riding, horse ownership, or success in the show ring; our main goal for our riders is to be proficient in safe riding techniques and horsemanship skills.

Specializing in the Arabian horse breed, we’re proud to use some top-class Arabian horses for our riding program; some of them with successful show careers. On top of that, we have some of the kindest and laid-back horses on our team for beginners and kids.

We see ourselves as truly countrified horse-lovers, but also as a metroplolitan community and have riders from all over the world; from the US, China, Venezuela, Germany, France – just to name a few. We speak English, Spanish and German.

The South Miami Riding Club is a full service equestrian barn located in the area known as "Horse Country" in Miami, only 25 mins from Miami downtown.

Our beautiful 2 acre facility is an ideal environment for you and the horses to reach your potential.

South Miami Riding Club is owned and operated by lifelong horse-lover Matthew Murray – riding instructor specializing in equitation, English, hunter and judge.

Moving to Miami as a little boy Matt discovered his love for horses, particularly the Arabian breed, about the same time. At a local stable he helped out to earn his riding lessons. By that moment his heart was taken by these beautiful animals, once and for all. Ever since he has cared for horses in a devoting way and has spent his entire life in the equestrian world.

He truly enjoys teaching, continued his passion of horses from the first day over 50 years ago, grew his knowledge by learning every breath and every step a horse is about to take, and sees it as his mission to pass it on to new generations of horse lovers.

In addition, Matt has the patience and understanding to share his knowledge and experience in an understandable and caring way – building trust and self esteem of all his riders and horses.

However, his main goal is to make every lesson fun and productive and develop riders who are ready to embrace riding.

LESSONS

Each riding lesson is a small step of the journey from riding student to full fledged equestrian.

We welcome all Riders, from the early age of 4 years, just as adults well past their riding glory days; beginners as well as experienced riders.

We meet your individual riding needs in a pleasurable and safe environment with well trained school horses.

At South Miami Riding Club, beginners get a solid foundation in hunt seat equitation and classical riding. Students will learn the techniques and skills they need to advance their riding capabilities and move on to the next level.

Safety and fun are our priorities. Learn all around horsemanship, basic grooming and horse care, ground manners, riding skills, and safe practices in the arena and in the barn.

We offer one on one and small group lessons for individual attention.

Lessons are available every day, 8 am – Sunset, and should be booked in advance to ensure an instructor and horse is available.

LESSONS FOR KIDS

Our program is hands on, where kids learn in a fun, loving atmosphere all about safety, grooming, tacking and all around horsemanship.

While in the arena each child will learn the techniques and skills they need to advance their riding capabilities and move on to the next level.

First we develop the children’s confidence in moving with the horse. We start on the lunge line in walk and trot and with a more developed centered balance, in canter. This way the kids can focus on themselves, as the teacher controls steering and speed of the horse.

In the following lessons the kids learn to steer their horse on their own and make it stop and go.

Later the teacher will remove the lunge line and the rider starts to ride independently.

Riding develops their ability to take instruction whilst challenging their balance in motion.

We also offer an Early Rider Program for children ages 3-4 years old who are eager to begin classes.

LESSONS FOR ADULTS

Whether you’re a First Time Rider or a Re-Rider, or you just want to enhance your riding skills, you will get the indivi-dualized attention you need.

Each horse & rider combination has a special bond and our mission is to make that bond stronger and have their partner-ship achieve all of their goals!

We offer private and semi-private lessons for adults in English riding. For those who are interested, we also offer a basic introduction in Western Riding.

Beginner to Intermediate Lessons focuses on the fundamentals and techniques needed to become a confident rider. We will work on developing the riders center of balance, an independent seat, teach and refine aids for walk, trot, canter, stop/go and steering.

If previous passions for riding and horses led in another way, because of life’s circumstances, we’re happy to get you back in the saddle. Our goal here is to make the transition back into the equestrian world as enjoyable as possible and create new moments of bliss on a horse's back that will last a lifetime.

WHAT TO WEAR

Long pants for riding
(We suggest breeches or snug fitting track pants as loose pants and jeans can rub. Fitted jeans or leggins will work too.)
Boots with a 1/2" - 1" heel
Riding helmets must be worn (we have helmets available to borrow until students can purchase their own)
Ideally have hair pulled back (ponytail, braided)
Wear a fitted or tucked in shirt

ALL RIDERS SHOULD NOT

Please do not wear shorts or capris
Do not wear open toes shoes (sandals)
Please avoid blouses or flowy shirts

South Miami Riding Club offers a Full/Quality Service Boarding for your horse and provides experienced, loving care for all breeds of pleasure.

With 5 minutes from the turnpike we are convenient to reach for horse owners in the Miami Metropolitan area.

Our priority will ALWAYS be the welfare of the horses we board. Our gold standard is that all of our horses are in their best condition while stabling with us.
